Thirty-five council areas in New South Wales and Queensland have been declared natural disasters zones with more areas likely to be announced as floodwaters continue to rise, prompting more evacuations.
New South Wales residents in the southern tablelands town of Goulburn are unable to return home as nearly 100-millimetres of rain fell in the area yesterday afternoon, causing roads and properties to flood.
Erin Pogmore from the SES says alternative accommodation has been made available.
"They are encouraged to go to the Goulburn Workers Club overnight where they will be looked after," she said.
